Solicitation:
The main event of World's is here slacker god Max Faraday versus evil mastermind Tao. Winner take all! Can the combined forces of the Wildcats and the briefly reunited Team Seven help save millions of surviving humans residing in St. Louis before this god war explodes? Lives are on the line, and it's time to be heroes in a big way! Can they redeem themselves for the failure to thwart Armageddon?

Synopsis:
Tao has the upper hand. He makes Team 7 and the Wildcats writhe in pain for his own amusement. Susanna and Void try a different strategy against Tao as they try to make him see his human flaws which still exist despite his new godhood. Spartan tells Tao that the very power of the Creation Equation will eventually "fix" him because his use of it for chaos and destruction go against everything the Creation Equation exists for.

Tao still fights it but eventually does relinquish some of his power. But he keeps enough to still be more powerful than all of the heroes. Grifter takes advantage of Tao monologuing and shoots him in the head. Tao disappears and they all expect for him to reappear, but he doesn't. Void explains that he really did relinquish some of his power because she has hers back, as does Max. She also explains that whatever power Tao had will probably be used up to repair the damage Grifter caused him.

Unfortunately, without Providence and with Max at a lower power level now, Void says that they don't have enough power to fix the world. Max asks Void to accompany him to The Hollow Realm with the survivors because he'll need her help to keep them safe there. Max then charges the rest of the heroes with fixing the world. And when all is done, they can take the survivors out of The Hollow Realm and back to Earth. Before he leaves, Max bestows all of the heroes with new costumes.

Spartan rallies the heroes to prepare to rebuild the Earth.

Overview:
Following the cataclysmic conclusion to NUMBER OF THE BEAST comes the dawn of a whole new age: WILDSTORM WORLD'S END! The heroes failed to save the planet from destruction and now struggle to survive in a brutal, post-apocalyptic environment...but with humanity largely dead and the Earth broken, what does the term "hero" even mean?

The Wildcats were a team of covert operatives formed to continue a millennia-lon g war between the alien races known as the Kherubim and the Daemonites. The team drifted apart once they discovered the war had ended on their home planets.

Then came the end of the world.

The Wildcats survived the annihilation better than most and find themselves struggling to help the remaining humans.

The Engineer's entire body was covered with a green shell, seeming to have both rigid and flexible parts, a product of his nanotechnology.

Bio:
He was part of a group called the Changers, led by The High, who wanted to change the world by removing the structure of society itself. There would be no more laws, no authoritarian structures, no crime and no war. The Engineer's part of this plan was to seed nanotechnological oases across the planet, that would be "horns of plenty" providing every imaginable food, product and tool anybody needed. Stormwatch attacked their base to stop them and the Engineer was killed by a Hammerstrike Deep Sanction Missile, a biowar payload and tailored acid bomb that destroyed him and his nanotechnology.

The first and only one of his nanotechnological oases, the Garden of Nevada, came back to haunt Stormwatch. It was used to create weapons, such as brain-powered guns, before being nuetralized by Apollo and Midnighter on behalf of Stormwatch. Most of the trees ended up on the Stormwatch spacecraft.

Empty Vee's natural state is being invisible, and her power is actually the ability to become visible.

Bio:
When Vee was a young girl, an alien meteorite crashed into her home. Though the Canadian government confiscated the object, the radiation from it had an unusual effect on Vee, who began to become invisible.

As Vee entered high school, she was placed in the superhero school, the Seminary. There, she was attracted to classmate Punchy, and began sending him anonymous, romantic text-messages. Though painfully shy, she was befriended by the lusted-for Destra. Destra helped her to boost her confidence, as well as teaching Vee how to talk to adults. When Destra found out about Vee’s text-messages, she secretly set up a meeting between Vee and Punchy in the library.

When Punchy encountered Vee in the library, instead of Destra as he expected, he brutally insulted Vee, leaving the young girl heartbroken and bitter. Vee, however, was luckier in her next attempt at romance. While at the school dance, she and the bass player for The Weirdness began a relationship.

Vee soon teamed up with Destra, Punchy and the Duke to discover what would happen when Sykes’ null-field was disabled. Vee snuck into Sykes’ room and turned it off, and immediately all four were drawn into a hallucinatory world. Vee and the Duke found themselves watching Sykes’ parents discussing their history after being fatally shot. Duke broke down and began to confess his darkest fears and desires, and Vee comforted him until Kefong set Sykes’ shield back up.

Vee later became host to Della Cruz, a marketing researcher looking into teens’ personal lives so as to know how better to market Vibe Cola. Vee showed her around the school and introduced her to favorite internet sites, but in end the refused to try Vibe Cola, leaving Della disappointed.

Destra, after being shot down by the Duke, approached Vee and shared bits of her plan to uncover the school secrets. The bass player from the Weirdness also called on Vee, asking her to accompany him on his band tour. Vee accepted, deluding her mother into thinking it as a visit to an old friend.

She soon dropped the bass player in favor of the lead singer, Bain. She was soon involved in a TV scandal when she and her lover exposed their naked lower-halves during a live feed. After her lover broke up with her, she returned to the Seminary, still treasuring the experiences of her summer, though she didn't regret anything.

On the trail of a Directorate base of operations, she came to Earth and found Ohmen, but he refused to return to Aegena with her.

Powers/Abilities:
Jon Drake has decades of experience in the intelligence community, and is a highly trained combatant, both armed and unarmed. If he says the word "Abraxas" he is transformed into the form of the superhuman Templar, who possesses extraordinary super human strength, and possibly other unknown powers too.

Bio:
Jon Drake has been a member of the British intelligence community for decades, a good portion of it as a member, and then leader, of the Establishment, a Secret British government-sponsored super-group, which had been protecting Britain since the 16th Century.

It is unknown whether Templar has always been a part of Drake, or whether the two were at some point joined, but the Templar was a powerful British superhuman who was rumoured to have died in China during the '60s. It is also unknown what happened to drive him insane.

During the '80s, Drake teamed up with Charlie Arrows and and the sorcerer Jack Carter to break up a Daemonite cell led by Kenyan.

He led the operation against the Daemonite invasion at Hobb's Bay, and the subsequent battle over London, which resulted in the Establishments existence becoming known to the public, against his better judgement.

The group soon met the astronauts returning from a mission to Venus in the 1950s, but these turned out to be artificial recreations of the astronauts, created by the organic nanite Venusians, who then burst open into a constantly growing swarm, adapting all matter they came across. Mr. Pharmacist managed to destroy the Venusians, and then the Establishment used their technology to saturation bomb Venus with a biological agent designed to eradicate the Venusians, wiping out all Venusians, or so they believed (a few of those on Earth had been acquired by Dr. Orwell).

Drake was then contacted by an acquaintance in the Russian government, who sought the groups help battling an outbreak of zombies. They discovered that Russian scientists had travelled to Dead Space, and creatures from there had begun travelling to Earth. The Establishments power proved insufficient to close the portal, and Drake was forced to release the Templar to take care of it. He then caused the Templar intense pain until he relented, and changed back to Drake.

When they returned to Nowhere, they were met by Mother, the creator of Nowhere. He warned them that his brother, Dr. Orwell, was travelling to the end of the universe, intending to replace Metavac. The Establishment accompanied him, but when they reached the end of the universe, they discovered that Dr. Orwell had been replaced in his own scheme by the Venusians, who proceeded to try and destroy Metavac. While unable to defeat them alone, the Establishment bought time for Charlie Arrows to contact Metavac, and protect it from the Venusians.

Jon Drake was created by Ian Edginton & Charlie Adlard.

Jon Drake seems to be based on the character of the same name from the television show Danger Man and it's possible sequel, the seminal The Prisoner.

Jon Drake's transformation into Templar using the magical word "Abraxas" is a nod to the comic series Miracleman.

Bio:
Raised in an alternate dimension with magic-centered technology, Capri was one of the rebels involved in the violent overthrow of the magical regime of Lord Necros and that world's version of the witch Tapestry. He encountered the Kherubim scholar Savant and joined her team of adventurers. The team has since disbanded and his current whereabouts and activities are unknown.

Bio:
Desmond was Mr. Majestic's sidekick. When Majestic left Earth, Desmond used his access to Kheribum technology to make himself rich. His company was called Quickthink, Inc.

When Majestic returned to Earth, Desmond joined him on a mission to discover the Planet Engine. During the battle, Desmond was attached to the machine which assimilated him, body and soul.

The High assembles his Changers and attempts to overthrow the world's way of life. Blind attempts to kill Jenny Sparks. Malcolm King meets the Changers in Paraguay, but is tortured for information. The Eidolon disrupts a Christian rally in Germany. The Engineer creates the Nevada Garden. Smoke kills the president of a corrupt African nation. (StormWatch Vol 1 #48)
The High speaks to the media outside the United Nations Building in New York City. StormWatch Prime attacks him but the High escapes. The Doctor drugs London with hallucinogens. Rite murders Chinese people who are drowning baby girls. Wish unlocks secret American military strongholds. (StormWatch Vol 1 #49)
StormWatch and the Changers battle to a standstill in Paraguay. Henry Bendix orders the Changers killed by StormWatch biological missiles. Jenny Sparks confronts Bendix, who admits he only wants the Changers dead so that he can control the world himself. The WildC.A.T.s have a crossover with the Justice League of America (J.L.A.)- (see JLA/WildC.A.T.s).

Trance tracked down Carlos the Jackal in a bar, and used his mind powers to discover the location of Vortex. He then commanded Carlos to kill himself. Trance and his Freaks found and abducted Vortex from his containment center. This caused the mutant Emplate to sense the being's existance, and he began to search for this new potential power source. The abduction also set off Cerebro, alerting Banshee to the situation, just as Lynch was alerted to it by the government. Cassidy's team Generation X and Lynch's team Gen 13 arrived moments apart, and the three groups had a stand-off, Emplate, from his dimensional prison revealed himself and tried to feed on the power source he sensed earlier, but Trance convinced him to work with him in return for the secrets to the powers of Qeelocke, Gen 13's teleporting "pet." Emplate, Trance and the Freaks escaped just as Vortex woke up from his containment. At first startled to see Lynch, the being responsible for imprisoning him, the two teams pleaded with him to trust them. As Emplate and Trance's alliance began to quickly crumble, Vortex transported the heroes to their location. During the fight, the villains were defeated and escaped. While perfecting his organ-transplant process utilizing the organs of super-powered beings to normal humans, Pretorious learned of the existence of Gen 13, a group of superhuman teens and their mentor John Lynch. Deciding to create a situation in which he could capture these children without anyone realizing he was behind it, he invited several private schools to visit his castle, La Casa Del Sol, which he purposely misrepresented to be a modern resort hotel. Pretorious welcomed the arriving members of Gen 13 to his home, and had his assistants, Nook and Cranny, carry their bags. After they were attacked in a hallway by his ape-hybrid, Pretorious told them it was just a normal ape that he kept in his lab for studies that got loose. He then left to welcome the next group of students to arrive. Pretorious welcomed the arriving members of Generation X to his home, not realizing they too, had superpowers. The next morning, the two groups of students and Pretorious enjoyed breakfast. Later that day, while at the beach, the teen heroes were attacked by "Salty," Pretorious’s man-fish hybrid. The creature returned to the castle, bringing the unconscious bodies of Freefall and Synch with him. Realizing this creature was tied into their host somehow, the members of Generation X and Gen 13 returned to the castle, where they witnessed the professor explaining his plans. They crashed through the ceiling and confronted Pretorious, but he quickly subdued them with poison gas. When he learned one, Burnout, was missing and had gone back to town for help, he took the Hybrids with him to track the teen down. Shortly after finding Burnout, the rest of the members of the two teams, having escaped, joined in the fight against the Hybrids, many of whom escaped. Trying to get away, Pretorious was cornered by M and Freefall. John Lynch later handed him over to a government project where he could use his knowledge for their benefit. (Generation X/Gen 13).

SkyWatch sends two shuttles to deflect an asteroid from passing too close to the Earth. After discovering mysterious organic catacombs on the asteroid, the shuttles are called back. One is destroyed, but the other shuttle returns to SkyWatch under radio silence. (StormWatch Vol 2 #10)
SkyWatch drops an escape module containing Flint into New York, who reports that SkyWatch has been overrun by Daemonites. Grifter re-forms the Wildcats to mount a rescue operation. Upon teleporting to SkyWatch, the Wildcats discover that the aliens are in fact xenomorphs of an unknown origin, and tha they've killed the other members of StormWatch save for Jackson King, Synergy, and Winter. The Wildcats evacuate the remaining personnel and Winter pilots the station into the sun. (WildC.A.T.s/Aliens)
The United Nations can no longer afford to run the StormWatch Program. Jenny Sparks kills Henry Bendix, recovering in the care of International Operations. Jack Hawksmoor and Swift thwart an attempt on Malcolm King's life. Jenny, Hawksmoor, and Swift disappear into a door. (StormWatch Vol 2 #11)

International Operations agent Holden Carver absorbs an artifact from the Bleed, which enables him to absorb lethal amounts of pain and transfer it to others through physical contact. Carver accidentally kills the rest of his squad. I.O. Director John Lynch convinces agent Carver to go undercover and infiltrate TAO's superpowered criminal Syndicate. Carver's cover story is that he killed his unit and went rogue. Lynch is the only one who knows the true story. (Sleeper #1)
After two months of minor criminal activity in the Middle East, Hong Kong, and Tangiers, I.O. deep cover agent Holden Carver is recruited into TAO's criminal Syndicate by Steeleye in Bangkok. (Sleeper #2)
International Operations director John Lynch starts a task force devoted the investigation of TAO's criminal Syndicate. Veronica St. James leads the manhunt for her former fiancee, Holden Carver. (Sleeper #6)
Grifter goes to Venice, planning to steal the money from an arms transaction. There, he sees his old teammate Spartan negotiating with the dealer, who goes by the name of Noir. After some fighting, the three of them are teletransported to the Halo Building. There, Grifter is surprised to see that Emp has been through some kind of transformation. Spartan reveals that Emp is doing this in order to become a Kherubim High Lord. They team up to stop the villain Kenyan from using Kherubim technology to his own purposes. (Wildcats #1)
Voodoo and Maul have moved to California, where Jeremy has been studyng their DNA. They are kidnapped by underworld power-broker C.C. Rendozzo. She stole a lethal virus, and, now, she is infected. Rendozzo wants Jeremy to cure her and, to make him work faster, infects him too. They are cured, and Voodoo and Maul escape. A Daemonite starts stalking them. (Wildcats #2)
Noir joins the Wildcats. Their first mission is to infiltrate a school where the Principal has a Daemonite artifact. (Wildcats #3)
Kenyan watches holographic scenes from the WildC.A.T.s last mission, which was invading a village in Ireland where there were superpowered terrorists possessing Daemonite technology. A mistake made by Emp apparently causes Zealot's death. The team disbands. (Wildcats #4)
Zealot appears to be alive and well. After stopping a robbery, a movie director who was held hostage during said robbery tries to convince her to let him make a movie based on her life. They are attacked by a group of Coda warriors and Zealot finishes them all. Meanwhile, whilst jogging, Grifter and Spartan run into a group of secret agents on Central Park. The agents attack them for seemingly no reason and, after the two heroes finish them, they found files with photos of both Maul and Voodoo. (Wildcats #5)
In New York, Grifter fights Kenyan, trying to stop him from killing several people with a bacterial bomb and them resuscitate them as zombies using stolen Kherubin technology. Spartan destroys the bomb, which is located on the Statue of Liberty's torch. Kenyan escapes. (Wildcats #6)
The mercenary Pike is obsessed with killing a WildC.A.T. (he doesn't know that the team disbanded). He kills Warblade's girlfriend and, in revenge, Warblade pursues Pike to Sarajevo and kills him. (Wildcats #7)
The Wildcats continue their search for Kenyan, and, now, Emp has disappeared. Grifter persuades Noir to help. Together and with some reluctant help from Spartan, they discovered Emp is at Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Emp and Kenyan talk calmly. The Wildcats go to Vegas, where they fight a crook who is using hi-tech to steal a safe. Later, they meet Emp and Kenyan. Emp uses mind games to make his nemesis kill him. Instead, Kenyan kills himself. Spartan is, then, asked by Emp to kill him, and he does so. (Wildcats #8-#11)
While Spartan views Emp's holographic will, Grifter is engaged by two foreigners who want him to find a historical artifact. He discovers that the artifact is Ladytron and that the foreigners are members of the church of Gort, a church for cybernetic people which Ladytron has left. After some fighting, Grifter decides to bring Ladytron to Halo Inc (now owned by Spartan). (Wildcats #12)

The Authority make their first public appearance to stop Kaizen Gamorra, an old enemy of Stormwatch, who wants to take advantage of Stormwatch's breakup to take revenge upon the world. To do this he uses engineered supersoldiers to destroy first Moscow and then part of London. The Authority manage to stop the attack on London, then predict the third and final attack in Los Angeles in time to avert it. Midnighter uses the Carrier to destroy the superhuman clone factory on Gamorra's island. (The Authority Vol 1 #1-4).
The Authority have to stop an invasion by a parallel Earth, specifically a parallel Britain called Sliding Albion. As it turns out, Jenny Sparks has met them before when their shiftships first appeared in 1920. Sliding Albion is a world where open contact between aliens (the blues) and humans during the 16th century led to interbreeding and an imperialist culture similar to the Victorian British Empire. After the Authority repel the initial wave of attacks, Jenny takes the Carrier to the Sliding Albion universe where she has the Doctor destroy Italy and what's left of the blues' regime along with it. In an all-frequencies message, she tells the people to take advantage of the second chance and "We are the Authority. Behave." (The Authority Vol 1 #5-8)

Elijah Snow is recruited for the team called Planetary (see Planetary series).

Mr. Majestic reveals where he was during the latter part of the 20th century (see Mr. Majestic series).

The original Deathblow (Michael Cray) is cloned by International Operations and adopts the name Genevieve Cray (see Deathblow: Byblows series).

Planetary and The Authority meet (see Planetary/The Authority: Ruling the World).

The "Wild Times" event occurs (see Wild Times series).
During the closing days of 1999, strange alien creatures begin building unknown structures in Africa and on the Moon. This prompts the previous Doctors to reveal to the current Doctor a vital secret: the original creator of Earth, the closest thing to the concept of "God" that exists, has returned from a grand tour of the universe to find humanity as an unwanted infestation in its "retirement home". Thus "God" is terraforming Earth to be habitable for itself (and uninhabitable for humans) in time for the arrival of its person, which is an immense pyramid-shaped object the size of the Moon. The Engineer convinces the Carrier to leave Earth orbit. The Authority pilot the Carrier into the approaching "God" through a pore and manage to navigate to its brain. On the route they encounter the being's immune system as well as a civilization that has evolved from parasites over billions of years. During the closing minutes of December 31, 1999, Jenny Sparks carries out her final act as the Spirit of the Twentieth Century, electrocuting the creature's brain to death before dying in Jack Hawksmoor's arms. 2000-

January 1st: Jenny Sparks is killed and Jenny Quantum is born, becoming the Spirit of the 21st Century (see The Authority Vol. 1 #12).
January 1st. Gaia Rothstein is born to a previously childless couple. Aside from Jennifer Quantum, she is the only known Century Baby of the new millenium. She is a physical manifestation of the Earth, an intermediary between a planet and its people. (StormWatch PHD #13)
Now under Jack Hawksmoor's leadership, the Authority try but fail to capture Jenny Quantum, the newborn Spirit of the Twenty-First Century, already proven to be more powerful than Sparks ever was. Instead, she is taken by a superhero-creating mastermind, Dr. Jacob Krigstein, who wants Jenny so he can shape the next century through her. Swift cuts a deal for custody of Jenny with Krigstein, who is granted lab space aboard the Carrier, and the chance to exercise his imagination reforming the dictatorships the Authority overthrows. (The Authority Vol 1 #13-16)
A superpowered serial killer named Samuel Smith starts killing women last-named Marlowe. He is the grandson of Slautherhouse Smith, who was rendered comatose by Saul Baxter (A.K.A Jacob Marlowe, A.K.A. Lord Emp). Meanwhile, the team starts adapting to Emp's Ascension and Spartan's subsequent assuming control of Halo Inc. Voodoo, who is using a Marlowe pseudonym, is tracked down by the killer. They meet and go to her house, where Samuel, using his eye laser beams, cuts off her two legs and almost cut her throat. Maul attacks Samuel, who shoots his laser beams at Maul's eyes, blinding him. Samuel escapes. Ladytron tracks Smith down, is seriously wounded by him, and is teleported back to Halo. Later, Spartan and Grifter prepare a trap for Smith, who is killed by Grifter. (Wildcats #14-#19)
The Authority face the Earth itself, which is about to catastrophically reverse its magnetic poles, spurred on to do so by a former Doctor who was stripped of his powers when he went renegade. In exchange for one hour's worth of full power from the current Doctor, the renegade agrees to save humanity. With no other options, the Authority evacuate the entire population of Earth to alternate Earths, then agree to the exchange. The renegade takes on and almost completely destroys the Authority with his new power before the full scope of his powers and experience catches up to him, and he is overwhelmed with empathy for all the living creatures left on Earth. Apollo and the Engineer kill him and the Earth's population returns home, some thrilled by their adventures. (The Authority Vol 1 #17-20)
Finland's Second Winter War. 8 million Fins die due to massive SPB bio-feedback. Most of the survivors fled to Sweden. Nearly 2000 Finn SPBs survived and put up the country's Masking Wall and the country remained nearly empty for 3 years. (StormWatch Team Achilles #8)

Roxanne Boorman & Zach Walsh, two "fixers" for International Operations, carry on their duties as the organization is slowly dismantled (see The Patriots series).

Dalton Morrell, Cassandra Caulder, Rachel Rande, and Iven come together to deal with the supernatural (see Disavowed series).

Tired with the Authority's interference with the activities of their governments, the G7 nations decide to replace them with a group more subject to their interests. They send their secret weapon, an American hillbilly named Seth whom they turned into a monstrous superhuman stated to have over a thousand super powers, to attack the Authority. Seth neutralizes all of the Authority except for Midnighter, who manages to escape with baby Jenny. The G7 Authority take over. (The Authority Vol 1 #22)
On their first ride in the Carrier, the G7 Authority discover thousands of refugees whom the previous Authority had been sheltering onboard the ship, some of them still alive. They dump them out into a realm called Re-Space, only to discover to their cost that Re-Space allows people to re-imagine their world - the refugees take the G7 leaders' wealth as their own, attack the Carrier and reimagine the Authority, transforming the newcomers into the original team. But Last Call's homophobia surges up when the re-imagined Apollo touches him; they break free and return the Earth to the way it was before. (The Authority Vol 1 #23-26)
The previous members of the Authority, having been mind-wiped, are forced into humiliating new lives. Midnighter, the only one to have escaped, infiltrates the Carrier. He frees his imprisoned lover Apollo and between them they kill the rest of the new Authority, leaving only Seth to deal with. At a G7 reunion, Swift finds herself freed from her mind control due to the death of Machine just in time to find out about Seth's "off-button" code phrase. The original Authority regroup but Seth again takes them all down, leaving only baby Jenny - who speaks aloud the code phrase and turns Seth back into an easily-defeated human. Apollo and Midnighter marry, and adopt baby Jenny. (The Authority Vol 1 #27-29)

The adventures of several members of Gen 13, Dv8, and other characters powered by the Gen-Factor are chronicled. Also, the Wildcore team meets their end during a break-out at the super-prison Purgatory Max (see Gen-Active series).

International Operations director John Lynch and his undercover agent Holden Carver meet secretly in New York to discuss Carver's TAO's criminal Syndicate. (Sleeper #3)
I.O. deep cover agent Holden Carver is promoted to the rank of Torpedo in TAO's criminal Syndicate. Around the same time, Carver's former fiancee, Department PSI agent Veronica St. James marries Alan, an agent in the anti-Syndicate task force. (Sleeper #7)
Special Agent Lee Carruthers, a high-ranking CIA operative begins working for TAO and his criminal Syndicate. (Sleeper #8)
After being introduced in the "Devil's Night" event, the sorceress Jezebelle sets out on her own (see Jezebelle series).

A new Cybernary is introduced to continue the fight against Kaizen Gamorra (see Cybernary 2.0 series).

Jackson King and Christine Trelane form the team called The Monarchy (see The Monarchy series).

Jon Drake is introduced to and joins England's metahuman response team called The Establishment (see The Establishment series).

Gen 13 visited New York City, but decided to leave their pet Qeelocke in their hotel room while they went site-seeing. When a bizarre creature entered Earth's dimension in the Atlantic Ocean, Qeelocke sensed it and began to act violently. Later, Gen 13 returned to find that Qeelocke had busted out of the room and gone on a rampage, and had also begun to grow. While they were out killing their evening, Spider-Man and the Human Torch came across Qeelocke, and, not knowing what it was, captured it. Torch told Spider-Man to bring it to the Baxter Building. As he flew back there, the Torch caught the attention of Freefal, who mistook him for her teammate Burnout. After Spider-Man delivered the still-growing Qeelocke to the Fantastic Four, the team went to investigate the new creature that was seen in the ocean. Gen 13 realized that the Fantastic Four were holding Qeelocke and Freefall went to the Baxter Building to talk to the Torch. When the Torch explained that Qeelocke was growing and violent, Freefall flew through the building looking for him. When she did, the rest of her team, who had followed her, arrived and confronted the Thing and Torch, and fought them while trying to free their pet. Before things could go too horribly wrong, Mr. Fantastic arrived and settled things down, but just as he did, the other creature made its way on to land. Qeelocke broke free and in its frenzied state, went to meet the other creature. Mr. Fantastic theorized that the two now-gigantic creatures must be mortal enemies and were tracking each other down by instinct. This proved to be quite incorrect when the two monsters finally confronted each other and, instead of fighting, began to mate. When they were finished, the other creature disappeared, apparently back to its original dimension, while Qeelocke returned to its normal size and attitude. The two teams, somewhat embarrased over the situation, parted ways. (see Gen 13/Fantastic Four).

Jenny Sparks works as an Allied operative against the Nazi superbeings to prevent the Nazis from obtaining valuable artifacts and ancient weapons. She rescues a Tibetan egg from the Nazis. The egg was prophesied to open and bring forth a being that will usher a new age. She is captured, but before being sent to a dissection camp, her childhood friend, Adolf Hitler, who upon accidentally noticing her being dragged away, remembers her and orders her to be released and sent to England with the egg. Axel Brass develops the ability to close wounds with his mind. (Planetary #1)

Logan was sent by Allied agents to recover the Lazarus Scroll from the Nazis. He was caught by the Nazi Eikert, who attempted to take the Scroll. Eikert ordered his men to kill Logan, who fought and tried to escape. The Coda member Zannah arrived seeking the Scroll as well, and helped Logan escape. They tracked Eikert and he revealed himself as an alien Daemonite. Zannah killed him, and the two retrieved the Scroll. After Logan met with Nick Fury, he and Zannah met up again and boarded a train for Vienna. Zannah began to explain the significance of the Scroll, which was a Daemonite item that they were seeking to reclaim. Logan's senses gave away the presence of another Daemonite on the train with them, but found themselves confronted by not only it, but a mysterious man named Kenyan whom both Logan and Zannah were familiar with. As the two battled Kenyan and the alien, Kenyan got possession of the Scroll and escaped the train before a bomb on it exploded. Logan and Zannah managed to jump from the train in time as well. They tracked Kenyan to a cave where he was attempting to use the Scroll to revive Ebron, the Queen Daemonite. Logan attacked Kenyan, and Zannah threw a powerful crystal into the forehead of a weak Ebron, causing the area to explode. Logan managed to pull himself from the rubble, but could only find one of Zannah's broken swords. (WildC.A.T.s/X-Men: The Golden Age)
Wild Times Universe: The DV8 Project (re-interpreted as the Super-Soldier project) produces three viable heroes that are sabotaged by Russian scientist Ivana Baiul. (Wild Times: Dv8)

January 1: Axel Brass and his associates attempt to end World War II using their quantum computer but instead are attacled by a team of superhumans from a parallel Earth. Brass and his people repel the invaders but Brass, the lone survivor, remains trapped in the mountain hideout until 1999. (Planetary #1)

April 30: The Midnighter, blackmailed into a time-travelling assassination attempt, decides not to kill Adolf Hitler and instead exact bloody revenge on Anton Paulus, the man who forced him back in time. He instructs a german soldier named Alfred Wolfrum to deliver a message to Paulus sixty-one years in the future: "I am coming." (Midnighter #7)

May 8: An associate of Dr. Axel Brass is killed in Berlin, his diary is taken by a Russian soldier and locked into a KGB vault. (Planetary #1)

World War II ends. The Paladins are placed in the Number of the Beast program (see Number of the Beast series).

After World War II, the United States take Wernher Von Braun and his men of the Mittelwerk to America. They also take Hitler's secret engineers and analysts, who were unknown save for the fact that they operated at the highest levels of Nazi security. While Von Braun would later be credited with starting the Apollo space program, the secret engineers created the Artemis program. (Planetary #6)

August 7: The day after the Hiroshima bomb is dropped, nearby settlements report seeing strange lights on Island Zero. (Planetary #2)

Sliding Albion starts Parallel World War One with their version of Europe. In a move fueled by desperation and contempt, Sliding Albion attempts to deflect a biological attack into WildStorm's London. The attempt failed, and Sliding Albion is presumed destroyed. While the bacterial attack did not kill any inhabitants, some Londoners gained super powers. (StormWatch Vol 1 #44)

Regis takes over Sliding Albion and begins the slow process of revitalizing her technology in an effort to once again traverse the Bleed. (The Authority Vol 1 #7)

Charlie Arrows served within the British military and was stationed in the South Pacific. He spent several months doing manual labor, preparing fortifications and buildings for an experiment headed up by the British Rocket Group. The experiment failed and wiped out nearly everyone present, and most of the survivors died shortly after due to various cancers. For some reason Arrows survived and came out of the mishap with a limited form of precognition. He used this to help him as a career criminal throughout the 70's and 80's.

Warblade (Reno Bryce) is born in Hong Kong. (Conjecture. WildStorm Universe '97 Sourcebook #3 lists his age as "mid-30s")

A Daemonite Plot to cripple US space launches prompts the formation of a US superhuman team, influenced by the Kheribum. the Team, called Team One, consists of Majestic (Majestros), Lucy Blaise (Zannah), John Colt (Yon Khol), Think Tank (Henry Bendix), Marc Slayton (The half-breed son of Lord S'ylton, who would later become Backlash), Mason, Isiah King, and Regiment. They are commanded by Saul Baxter(Lord Emp) and Miles Craven, later head of I.O. On their first mission, they encounter Helspont and a crime ring run by a superhuman named Slaughterhouse Smith. However, the team doesn't last long, and soon break up. The US governemnt continue to experiment with covert and overt Superhuman teams. (see Team One series).

International Operations is founded as an adjunct to the Central Intelligence Agency. It would eventually outgrow its parent agency to become the leading intelligence service in the United States. (The Kindred Preview)

International Operations begins experiments with the Gen-Factor in a secret research lab on Caballito Island. They experiment on animals which would later result in the creation of the Kindred. John Lynch's first command was heading the security of Caballito's compound. When the experiments were cancelled, Lynch destroyed many, but not all, of the Kindred, believing the survivors would kill each other off. They didn't. (The Kindred #3. Actual date is conjecture, but it had to be after I.O.'s creation in 1964, and these experiments preceeded Team 7.)

The Renegade Doctor murders three countries in alphabetical order, killing 12 million people. Every superhuman on the planet was forced to team up to stop him. He was captured and confined in a temporal prison twenty million years in the past. (The Authority Vol 1 #17)
Miles Craven recruits Doctor Nicolas Robertson, a scientist fascinated by time travel, and Doctor Alexander Deveraux, a scientist who believed that aliens influenced the history of Earth, into International Operations. Their work would lay the foundation for The Puritans, a splinter sect of I.O. who worked to rid the Earth of alien influence. (WildC.A.T.s #39)

The Bleed Universe: A new Kheran government sends medics to Earth to perform experiments on human beings. One such human being is Jack Hawksmoor, who would later become the StormWatch Weatherman ("Twenty-odd years" before StormWatch Vol 2 #9)
Interpol sent Sean Cassidy to protect some nuclear warheads from international terrorist Carlos the Jackal. The Jackal showed up, with a superhuman named Vortex in tow, and they attacked Cassidy's squad, killing most. Before Cassidy could take them down, a group of Black Razors led by John Lynch arrived and shot down Carlos' operatives, hitting Cassidy as well by accident. Sean was taken to a hospital to recover. Vortex, whose powers were barely controlable, was placed in a containment unit. (Gen 13/Generation X #1)

Mystique (posing as Leni Zauber) was hired by one government agency to infiltrate Numidia's Super Soldier Program just as Miles Craven hired Madamoiselle Mirielle Duplessis to do the same. Neither was aware of the other's true purpose, but both suspected the other of being a covert op. Shortly after, two separate teams of covert soldiers, Team 7 (Craven's team) and Team X were sent in after her to locate and destroy a location that was trying to produce Super Soldiers. Team 7's helicopter was targeted by Numidian forces and shot down, but the men survived. Elsewhere, Team X found their way into the base. There, Omega Red and Madamoiselle Mirielle Duplessis met and attacked them. Outside, Team 7 arrived and launched an assault on the compound. "Zauber" attempted to cause friction between Duplessis and Omega Red by claiming Duplessis was a spy. During the chaos, Team 7 and Team X met up, and after a stand-off, realized they were working towards the same goal. They searched the compound and found a lab with several Super Soldiers in stasis tubes. Omega Red released the soldiers, who attacked the two Teams. Meanwhile, "Zauber" and Duplessis continued to fight, each accusing the other of being a double agent. Craven's assistant Gabriel telepathically contacted Team 7 to warn them that Craven was going to blow up the complex with them inside. The two teams escaped, and the members of Team 7 used their psychic link to psionically blast the compound apart. As they began to fly away, Duplessis appeared out of the rubble. She was rescued by them, but revealed herself to actually be "Zauber", and then shapeshifted to her true form of Mystique, Team X's covert op. As they flew away in a helicopter, Omega Red dug himself out of the ruins. (Team X/Team 7)

Professor X, having sensed through Cerebro the runaway's disappearance, sent Nightcrawler to scout the estate of Blair Cameron, a member of the British arm of the Hellfire Club. While there, he was attacked by the WildC.A.T. known as Warblade, who believed him to be an alien Daemonite. The two battled briefly beore a trio of Hellfire soldiers attacked both of them. Warblade then realized that one of the guards was the Daemonite he was seeking, not Nightcrawler and killed him. Warblade left, leaving Nightcrawler with many questions. Two months later, the WildC.A.T.s leader, Lord Emp (Jacob Marlowe), received an invitation to join the Hellfire Club, and sent Spartan and Voodoo with him to investigate undercover. At the same time, Professor X sent a small team of X-Men to the area to investigate. Marlowe, Voodoo (his "secretary") and Spartan (his "assistant") arrived at Cameron's estate. They were welcomed and treated to decadence. The team of X-Men arrived on the location, and Wolverine recognized the Daemonites. he led an attack against them. They were aided by the arrival of the WildC.A.T. members Warblade and Zealot, whom Wolverine remembered from their encounter decades earlier. Cameron's troops assaulted the undercover C.A.T.s and took them prisoner. Cameron revealed to them that he had joined forces with the Daemonites to help raise hell on Earth. To unleash a demon, he required two beings: a virgin (the runaway) and an immortal (Emp). Cameron invoked a spell that gave rise to the demonic Lord of All That is Not. Before the creature could claim its sacrifices, Spartan broke free and tried to attack it. Just then, the combined units of X-Men and WildC.A.T.s broke in and attacked Cameron's followers. The demon, without a sacrifice, returned to its dimension, causing a large explosion that apparently killed Cameron, but the others survived. They found themselves face to face with a large number of Daemonites and Hellfire soliders. In the ensuing battle, many of the Daemonites and Hellfire Club soldiers were slain by the WildCA.T.s. The X-Men, disgusted by the WildC.A.T.s' bloodthirsty ways, left, warning them not to cross paths again. (WildC.A.T.s/X-Men: The Modern Age. Logan returned to San Francisco and home to his girlfriend Sung Li, who was in tears. She explained that she had called her mother, and the woman told her she didn't have a daughter. When Li then went to her home, her mother threatened to call the police. Logan and Li went back to her mother's home, and she greeted them happily. She claimed not to know what they were talking about concerning the earlier incidents. Sung's mother then attacked her, and a small group of ninjas crashed through the window. They attacked Logan, but Sung's mother was cut and killed by one on accident. Logan fell out of a window with some of them, and the rest launched a rain of arrows down at him. Michael Cray, aka Deathblow, witnessed the events, and shot one of the ninjas to keep him from killing Logan. Cray then escaped with Logan, taking him to his home to recover. Once he did, Cray told him that he was in the area because he was following a letter sent to him regarding his old Team 7 mate Phil Chang. The address on the letter was Logan and Sung's home, but Logan did not know anything about the letter. The group of ninjas arrived, almost destroying Cray's home in the process, and the two made another escape. They returned to Logan's place to find it in shambles and Sung Li missing. However, a mysterious grinning man in a top hat was there. The strange man, after Wolverine unsuccessfully tried to kill him, explained he was working for the Librarian, a mystical being who is held prisoner in a library that contained all knowledge. The top hat-wearing man then transported Logan and Cray to the Library, where they encountered the Librarian. The Librarian explained that Sung Li was a direct descendent of the high priestess that had put her followers' souls into an urn to await the day they would return to the world. The odd behavior in Li's mother was one sign that the time was near. The Librarian gave Logan a talisman to place on the urn to keep this from happening and returned the two to Earth. Cray offered to help Logan in his search, and the two suited up. They followed the Librarian's directions and found a group of the high priestess' followers who had kidnapped her. They ran through many of them before Logan located the urn. A mysterious group of archers appeared to help Logan and Cray, and when Logan placed the talisman on the urn, all of the ninjas fell over, their life forces drained. Li emerged from a dimensional door and the three left the area. Cray departed, and Logan took Sung Li home. Later on, he caught her putting away a robe resembling the Librarian's, and realized she was indeed the Librarian the entire time. She tried to explain that she did what she had to to save the world, but Logan, disillusioned that she may have only used him instead of actually loving him, left her. (Deathblow and Wolverine)

Bio
Zealot's real name is Lady Zannah of Khera. Zannah and her daughter Kenesha (who at the time believed Zealot was actually her sister) along with the several other Kherubim, were stranded on Earth thousands of years ago when their Explorer ship crash-landed after a battle with a Daemonite warship. Zannah survived thanks to her lover, Stratos, who put her in an escape pod. Zannah and the other survivors were scattered, forced to hide themselves amongst the human population. Their enemies had likewise been forced down, and though less humanoid, the Daemonites used their powers of possession and shapeshifting to blend in as well. For the next few millennia, a secret war raged, with the Kherubim defending the vulnerable and oblivious humans from their would-be conquerors.

Zannah took the name Zealot when she formed a sisterhood of warriors, known as The Coda, on Earth. She fought along side them for many years, even leading the group for a while. In the city of Troy, during the Trojan War, Zealot arranged for the Coda to help the Greeks conquer Troy in exchange for 99 female babies to be raised as new Coda warriors. She helped Ulysses conceive of the Trojan horse and stationed Coda warriors inside it. However during the sacking of Troy she decided that the killing of all of the unarmed women and children was going too far, so she saved the life of the royal family. In doing so it was decided by her fellow Coda that she had betrayed the precepts of the Coda. She was engaged in combat by her closest friend, whom she beat, but refused to kill. This was considered by the friend a mortal insult. These actions were considered violations of Coda precepts and caused her to be branded a traitor and be expelled from the order. She is considered to be an eternal enemy by the very Coda sisterhood she had founded.

Subsequently, Zealot spent a century serving the witch known as Tapestry. She did this as payment for Tapestry saving Kenesha's life after having been poisoned. During this period Tapestry tried to brainwash Zealot to her way of thinking, but although Zealot was changed by her time working for the witch, she managed to retain her true self inside. During her stay with Tapestry, Zealot became a proficient wielder of magics. However, the magic she learned was dark magic and soul corrupting. Because of this Zealot swore never to use it again, but had to break her promise when she battled Tapestry many years later.

Team One
For most of the 20th century, Zealot lived in America. She began a relationship with US army soldier Jack Harackiewicz in the 1950s, and tried to train him in the ways of the Coda, but the two eventually went their separate ways. Under the name Lucy Blaize, Zealot worked for the US Government's Department of Defense and became a member of the ill-fated Team One, with fellow Kherubim Mr. Majestic (Majestros, the father of Savant), Saul Baxter (Lord Emp), John Colt (Yon Kohl, with whom Zealot had a relationship at the time) and Marc Slayton (Backlash).

WildC.A.T.s: Cover Action Teams
She would train a man in the ways of the Coda named Cole Cash whom she joined the Wild.C.A.T.s with. As a Wild.C.A.T she again fought Helspont and his Cabal. He intended to bring other Daemonites to earth, but the team was able to stop his plan. When Voodoo became apart of Wild.C.A.T.s she trained her in the fighting style of the Coda. It was during one of their training sections that they met Hunstman and Miranda Tai being chased by aliens. One took over Voodoo and went to see Tapestry. Zealot along with Hunstman and Tai went after her battling Tapestry and soon the rest of the team arrived and fought the group known as the Troikathat Tapestry had hired. Even Majestros and Savant joined the battle and Zealot took a short leave after. Zealot along with the rest of the group found the crashed Kherubim ship and used the ship to travel back to Khera. Their the team found out Khera was not as utopian as they once believed. The war against the Daemonites ended thousands of years ago and were now second class citizens to them. Zealot even insulted Voodoo when she told of this straining the relationship. While there the other Coda had wanted to kill her in hopes of making her a martyr for themselves. This act made her disgusted with them and along with the rest of the team returned to Earth. When they returned they found that a new team had been formed in their place. The new team was Majestros, Savant, Ladytron, Condition Red and Tao. However Tao was revealed to had been manipulating the team into starting a gang war and she almost killed Tao when they attacked him, but Majestic killed him first.

Wildcore
She was also apart of Wildcore, when Department Psi needed her to help them with a group of aliens known as the D'rahn. She invaded Norfolk Naval Base trying to find a general Gant, who was leader of an alien extermination group known as the Puritans. The Puritans have a database of suspected aliens who live on earth and the D'rahn want to hunt down the earth Kherubim's. Gant uses his group called the Chasers to protect their base, but the power of the D'rahn overwhelms them and only their leader Brawl, Zealot and Gant make it out of their alive. Later Gant turns out to have been a Daemonite indisguise. His faction of Daemonites promise to obey the D'rahn in return for their lives and are then enlightened by the D'rahn and made more powerful. Wildcore is able to erase all but ten of the names on the list and now with Brawl set out to defend the remaining names. They are unable to save one person from the list, but his fiance Alea having been enlightened joined the Wildcore. After she and a member Ferrian try to find Majestic for help a ally of Department Psi Azrum is revealed to have gone to find Tapestry for help, but hasn't been heard of. With Majestic Wildcore attack the D'rahn and in the battle he kills their Typhon causing them to retreat. Azrum has been imprisoned by Tapestry and after enslaving Zealot reshapes the world, but Ferrian is able to regain his old memory's and free the others. The defeat Tapestry, but two members die and she soon leaves the group.

Wildcats & Wildcats 3.0
During a mission against an Irish village were super soldiers were being made via Daemontie tech she was thought dead after she tried to save a group of children and was shot. The village was caught in an explosion and the rest of the team thought her dead and disbanded. Later it turns out she was hiding from Coda factions hunting them down in secret and even had a one night stand with a drunk Grifter and the two would fight of the Coda. After some time killing the Coda the FBI tracked her and sent Agent Orange secretly under Jack Marlowe's control, the Coda eventually found her sending Sarin to take her down and she captured her, Orange and his agents. She was to be exacuted by them and was tortured, but thanks to Ladytron being controlled by Grifter, Mr. Dolby, the Beef Boys and C.C Renozzo were sent after her. They battled many Coda, but couldn't make their way to them until Marlowe used Orange to fight the Coda from the inside. She was freed and the base and the Coda were destroyed.

Majestic
Later, Majestros asked for her help when he traveled from the future discovering that soon the Daemonites would take over. The two along with Desmond went in search for the Planet Shaper, but Helspont and his creation Biomass attacked them. After Desmond merged with the device Zealot along with Majestic and Helspont discovered that the Kherubims grew in power by inslave species on planets and taking over that world and that Daemonites were a race that fought back against their control. Soon a rogue Kherubim of the Shapers Guild named Javen arrived. He wanted to use the Shaper and remake Earth into a new Khera and use Majestic DNA to breed a new race of Kherubims. However he found that Majestic's body was breaking down due to his dimension and time travel and attempted to take their child Savant as the next best thing. During the battle Majestic made Zealot reveal that she was in fact Savant's mother and he was her father. He then went off to stop the Kherubims forces on his own.

Wildcats Nemesis
Some time later a Kherubim named Nemesis made an appearance it was revealed that she was at one time the lover of Majestic and he used his postion to get her trained as a member of the Coda despite her being an Adrastea. The two women became rivals and friends, but due to her heritage Kheran politicians ordered Majestic to sleep with Zealot which he did seperating from Nemesis. Nemesis had been used as a scapegoat byRaven of the Brotherhood of the sword when he killed the Coda in an attempt to overthrow the Kherubims and Daemonites. Zealot swore her revenge on Nemesis unknowing of the truth. Zealot later found her in 2005 killing members of the Brotherhood and taking a child from them. She defeated the Wildcats and Zealots in short time, but Majestic was infact able to beat her. After she was taken to the Halo building the truth was revealed. She explained that the Brotherhood and Daemonites had intended to turn humans into mutant monsters and were going to use the child Kara to do it. Zealot along with the rest of the Wildcats were attacked by the Brotherhood using Brotherhood/Shaper's called Scimitars. After their leader Raven took the girl Zealot, Majestic and Nemesis made piece and went after them and fought the mutates that had been activated. After Savant found their ship the team went after it they found that Raven had taken the population of New Jersey hostage. He told them to surrender, but like a Coda, Nemesis did not. She did not she used some special grenades causing damage and buying the group time to escape with the hostages and stayed to finish of Raven, but not before making her tell Majestic that if she hadn't sacrificed she would have made him happy all those years. She killed Raven and would have died herself had Majestic not showed up to keep her from dying in outerspace.

Captain Atom: Armageddon
Zealot fought alongside many of her ex-WildCAT teammates, in an unofficial form of the group, against Captain Atom.

WorldStorm
Zealot is in a Coda Sisterhood building, having retired there from Earth. However, her (future) return to Earth was precipitated by a large Daemonite attack. Although Majestic arrived and destroyed all the Daemonites, he dropped to the floor and told Zealot that their next target was Earth.

World's End
After Armageddon, Zealot once again finds herself with the Wildcats. She resides with the team in the Halo Corp. building in the ruins of Los Angeles.

At first, when her powers were only partially activated, she had a line of feathers that ran along the underside of her arms. This allowed simple flight. After being fully activated by Christine Trelane, she has the ability to grow wings from her back at will as well as claws and talons. Consequently she is the "fastest winged mammal on the planet". She has flown fast enough to catch superspeedsters. Her attacks indicate some enhanced strength and durability as well. She once flew directly through a person, causing them to explode in all directions. It has been implied that she has some vaguely defined enhanced senses; apart from superior hearing and eyesight, she is able to feel or "read" the air to locate moving things. She can also shed her wings, which eventually decompose into liquid, although she no longer does this since joining the Authority.

She has also demonstrated excellent cooking and singing skills.

Bio:
Swift is a bisexual Buddhist Tibetan Chinese woman. She began life as a fetus inside a large egg, guarded by Tibetan monks for generations, prophesied to hatch in the end of the millennium and usher a golden age of love and peace. The egg's incubation was not uneventful - it had to be rescued from Nazi agents by Jenny Sparks in 1943. Eventually it hatched into Swift, a physically ordinary human female.

When a comet passed by Earth, it activated a genetic quirk in some people that would manifest into superpowers either naturally or through special Seedlings called Activators. Swift was one such Seedling. Swift was brought into Stormwatch as a rookie, with her powers only partially activated. Weatherman Henry Bendix later reconfigured the Stormwatch teams, assigning her to Stormwatch Black, Stormwatch's black-ops team, alongside Jenny Sparks (with whom she had a brief relationship) and Jack Hawksmoor. It was then that Christine Trelane asked her if she wanted to be fully activated, and she agreed, bringing her powers to their full potential.

After Stormwatch disbanded, Swift joined her former teammates in The Authority. Formerly a pacifist, she has put aside those beliefs to fight for a finer world, no matter the cost.

During the Transfer of Power storyline, Swift was replaced by the Canadian superhuamn Rush. This, after being taken out of the fight with radioactive feces. Swift was brainwashed into becoming the obidient trophy wife of a television mogul who had been part of the conspiracy to replace her and her team. She was insulted at every opportunity, from having her cooking ignored to the implications she could not remember large words. Eventually, in a conspirator reunion, she over-heard the "off-button" code of the monster Three-Willied Seth, and proceeded to free herself. She literally took the heads of the television mogul and software billionaire co-conspirator. She then personally saved her friend, the Engineer, Angela Spica. She also killed the man who had been abusing Angela.

World's End
The 2008 Number of the Beast Wildstorm miniseries described the devastation of Earth, and set the scene for a new Authority ongoing series, World's End, by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. In this series Swift acts for the devastated Authority as a messenger and transmitter, using her powers and a code of coloured balloons as a communications channel while the Authority attempt to help survivors. She finds herself followed at all times by a flock of birds confused by the new, harsher, environment.

Shen Li-Min was actually created by Jeff Marriotte's daughter for him while he was writing STORMWATCH. Warren Ellis thought it'd be a cool thing for her to see "her" character stick around, so she survived the death of StormWatch and became a member of the Authority.

StormWatch
Midnighter, alongside his future husband Apollo, was part of a top secret Stormwatch team created by the first Weatherman, Henry Bendix. Nobody but Bendix himself knew of the team's existence. Bendix built them as superhuman and, when they donned their costumes and spoke their codenames, their previous identities ceased to exist.

However, this secret team was all but destroyed during their first mission, Apollo and Midnighter being the only survivors. They went rogue and spent the next five years undercover fighting for a finer world in the alleyways of America. One mission took them to Britain, where they thwarted Bendix's attempts at experimenting on children to create superhumans, in the process developing links with MI5. They remained unknown to Stormwatch until Christine Trelane found the files about their team after Bendix's fall.

Jackson King, formerly Battalion, now the new Weatherman, ordered them found, not being sure whether they were heroes or villains. Midnighter and Apollo were after weapons made in the "Nevada Garden", a relic of the first Engineer. He ordered Fahrenheit and Hellstrike to tag them with fetishes so they could be transported into SkyWatch. Midnighter and Apollo first attacked the Stormwatch team, believing them under Bendix's orders. However, they ceased the attack once they were told Bendix was dead. With King's help, they violently retrieved the Garden from the U.S. Army, and King granted them what they asked for: new lives away from Stormwatch.

The Authority
After Stormwatch was destroyed, Jenny Sparks convinced both Midnighter and Apollo to come out of retirement and join her new group, The Authority. A formidable fighter with a sardonic attitude, Midnighter epitomised the new team's commitment to fighting for a finer world, including against vested interests and world governments. Midnighter and Apollo's relationship, though hinted in previous issues, was revealed in The Authority #8. He was the architect of the team's first significant victory, the defeat of autocratic dictator Kaizen Gamorra, which he achieved by dropping the 50-mile-long Carrier on to Gamorra's island base.

When the US government had the team attacked and replaced with manipulable substitutes, Midnighter was the only Authority member to evade capture . Presumed dead, Midnighter had in fact escaped the Carrier with baby Jenny Quantum. He returned to overthrow the puppet team and rescue Apollo from imprisonment and abuse at the hands of their replacements. Shortly thereafter Midnighter and Apollo were married and adopted Jenny.

Midnighter took a central role in Ed Brubaker and Dustin Nguyen's Revolution maxiseries. A visitation, apparently from a future Apollo, convinced Midnighter that he was on the path to becoming a malign dictator. To avoid this fate Midnighter quit the team, precipitating its break-up, and returned to life fighting solo on the streets. Raised alone by Apollo, Jenny exploited her powers to age herself to young adulthood and reformed the Authority. Having convinced Midnighter to rejoin the team Jenny discovered he was being manipulated by a dimension-hopping Henry Bendix, hitherto assumed dead. Midnighter fought for Bendix before the Engineer was able to break the mind-control; Midnighter then killed Bendix by ripping out his spine.

Kev
Circumstances have twice forced Midnighter, very much against his will, to team up with Kev Hawkins, a homophobic former-SAS soldier and eponymous protagonist of the Authority: Kev miniseries (written by Garth Ennis) - a relationship made worse by the fact that on their first meeting, Kev killed him, Apollo and the rest of the Authority, though the Carrier resurrected them. On their last meeting they took down MI5's Royal Oak project, an attempt at replicating Bendix's experiments.

Midnighter (ongoing series)
The first story arc saw Midnighter attacked and kidnapped by agents of a man named Paulus while passing through the Carrier's teleportation portal. Paulus told Midnighter that he had replaced Midnighter's secondary heart with a remote-detonated bomb, and challenged him on pain of death to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Time-travelling back to the First World War trenches, Midnighter encountered Hitler as a young corporal in the German army, but was apprehended by 'time police' officers from the 95th century before carrying out his mission. In his struggle to escape, he crashed the officers' time machine at the year 1945 -- shortly before Hitler's expected suicide. Eventually Midnighter allied himself with the police and returned to his own time, where he threatened to erase Paulus from history by killing his kidnapped younger self; it is unclear whether or not he would have executed the child, but ultimately he did not have to. Midnighter then returned to the Carrier, but was apparently just as listless as before, immediately sending himself on another mission in Iraq.

This first arc was followed by four single-issue stories. Midnighter #6 featured an apparent alternate-universe Samurai Midnighter. Midnighter #7, by Brian K. Vaughan and Darick Robertson, explored the way Midnighter's brain processes combat by running the story backwards. Midnighter #8, by Christos Gage and John Paul Leon, dealt with Midnighter's attempts to connect better with humans after a graphic and public battle with the Suicide King.

A second story arc (issues #10-16), under new creative team Keith Giffen and Jon Landry, with ChrisCross pencilling later issues), detailed Midnighter's attempts to rediscover his life before becoming superhuman. Files given to him by Jenny Quantum identified him as Lucas Trent, born July 14, 1967 (making him 40 years old in 2007), a native of Harmony, Indiana. On visiting the town he found it was the hub of a paramilitary patriotic organization named Anthem, with ambitions to take over the United States and provide the country with the conscience they felt it had lost. While battling Anthem and its superpowered operatives, including Dawn (a reference to the phrase "dawn's early light" in the "Star-Spangled Banner"), and Rosie (patterned after Rosie the Riveter), he discovered that Jenny had falsified the documents she gave him, and that he had never been Trent - but decided to stay on in Harmony nonetheless.

World's End
The 2008 Number of the Beast Wildstorm miniseries described the devastation of Earth, and set the scene for a new Authority ongoing series, World's End, by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. In this series Midnighter appears as one of the last Authority members still able to act in the ruins of London, now called Unlondon. Separated from Apollo, who is confined to the upper atmosphere by sunlight-blocking fog over the planet's surface, Midnighter helps civilians to reach the ruins of the Carrier, now a stronghold for survivors.

Alternative 838: In this gender-reversed universe, a female superhero known as The Nightshade is a member of the Meritocracy.

The Authoriteens: In Gen¹³ (volume 4) #11, a teenage version of Midnighter is a part of a team called "The Authori-teens" named Daybreaker. While he and the Apollo analogue Kid Apollo would not appear to be openly gay, their feelings for one another are apparent; Kid Apollo is said to be "overly protective" of Daybreaker.

Daylighter (WildStorm Winter Special): In Wildstorm Winter Special 2005, a story called Apollo & Midnighter: Two Dangerous Ideas features their alternate reality analogues, Pluto and Daylighter, with inverted color schemes to match. At first the real Apollo and Midnighter believed that they were their homophobic counterparts, but later learned that they were a former couple and had broken up.

Flowers for the Sun: A deadly killer with no knowledge of his past, set in a world very similar to feudal Japan. He falls in love with this world's version of Apollo. The couple are ambushed by ninjas and Apollo is killed. After killing the man responsible for the ambush, Midnighter visits Apollo's grave once a year and offers the hearts of the men he's killed as a tribute to his fallen love.

Trivia:

The Midnighter is loosely based upon the archetype of the DC Comics character, Batman. However, unlike Batman, the Midnighter possesses superhuman powers.

The Midnighter is one of the few openly-gay characters in North American mainstream comics.

Fuji is a gaseous posthuman entitiy. As such, he requires a protective suit in order to maintain his density or else he will revert to a radioactive gas. Fuji possesses enormous strength. Fuji also has an orgasm every five minutes.

Bio:
The nickname Fuji was given to him in high school, because of his extraordinary size and Japanese origin. He spent some time as a Sumo wrestler in his teens but developed a strange condition which caused his body's structure to deteriorate. His father, Yoshi Misawa, was a wealthy businessman and invested a lot of that money into curing his son but was told it was incurable. Stormwatch then stepped in to help. However, when his powers were fully activated, Fuji's body reverted to plasma and only quick thinking by Stormwatch scientists saved his life. Now, he is unable to live outside his specially built containment suit, a fact which affects him emotionally though he often hides it behind a cheerful exterior.

StormWatch
Fuji's containment suit has changed many times over the course of his Stormwatch duties. Despite inherent problems, such as his fingers being too big to operate communication devices, Fuji still enjoys bragging about how beautiful he considers himself to be.

Fuji once assisted the Wildcats, where rogue team-member Tao caused him severe mental damage by trapping him in a mental loop. It took some time to recover from this.

Fuji's deep patriotism is highlighted in Stormwatch #42 as he breaks protocol to personally confront a Japanese madman who is causing widespread death in Tokyo and beyond with the intention of having other countries taking over Japan. After an ideological confront, the madman died in the hands of his own genetically engineered soldiers. Fuji never spoke about that day again.

During downtime in Clark's Bar, a hangout for superpowered people, Fuji tells of a secret unique to his physical makeup. The random vibrations of every day life build up inside the gas of his body. Every five minutes, they 'erupt', giving him an orgasm. His teammates are duly shocked and or envious.

When StormWatch investigated what they thought was an asteroid, SkyWatch got infested with Aliens that killed most of the crew. Among the victims were Fuji, whose containment suit was ruptured and his plasma energy mixed with Hellstrike's. The WildC.A.T.S. saved the remaining crew and the plan was to return with reinforcements, but Winter apparently realized that there was only one way to get rid of the Aliens. Instead of escaping with the others and try to fight the Aliens later, he stayed behind and flew the space station into the sun. The destruction of SkyWatch and death of Winter and other StormWatch operatives was what led to StormWatch being discontinued and the formation of the Authority.

WorldStorm
When The Authority's Doctor resurrected Winter, his teammates were resurrected as well, including Fuji. According to Fahrenheit's memories, one of The Monitors seemingly played a role in this, specifiying that they would be needed. Later in the Stormwatch: Post Human Division issue of Wildstorm: Armageddon however, it is suggested that they were saved by a possible future version of Jackson King. Fuji has rejoined the reorganized Stormwatch Prime.

World's End
Fuji serves under Jackson King's new StormWatch, as a member of StormWatch Team Alpha.
