History:
The United Nations's first orbital space station, Monitor One, was staffed by an internatinal crew of scientists, technicians, and military personnel. Shortly after the station's completion, it was caught in the tail of a previously uncharted comet. Strange radiation crom the comet's tail penetrated the station's defensive shields and caused the majority of those stationed on board to die a grisly death.

A select few members of the crew, carriers of a rare genetic trait, survived the disaster but soon began mutatin into inhuman, super-powered beings. Unable to cope with the tremendous powers granted them, the attacked Earth, eventually joining forces as the WarGuard. It was only at the cost of thousands of lives that a United Nations military task force was able to put a stop to their rampage.

The WarGuard were hel in a state of cryogenic stasis on the SkyWatch orbital platform. They were a doomsday weapon, to be released only in the face of the gravest threats to the Earth from outside forces.
