Overview
The Monarchy was an ongoing comic published by Wildstorm Comics. The story centers around Jackson King, former member of Stormwatch, as he strives to improve the world by any means necessary. "The world is in need of surgery", he says, "Welcome to the first cut". King, along with his wife, Christine Trelane, extradimensional ex-priest Jon Farmer, "calculator goddess" Professor Q, the resurrected former hero Union, "chaos artist" Condition Red, and others who have yet to be revealed, he is willing to do what it takes to save the world from threats they don't perceive, but unlike the superstar team The Authority, also formed by Stormwatch veterans, the Monarchy moves through the shadows and alleys, never letting the world know they're there.

The Bleed is the space between universes, the artery walls of reality. Stormwatch first discovered it in 1998, and watched an alternate version of themselves sacrifice themselves to save their world. Later the Authority's semi-sentient base of operations, The Carrier would spend a lot of time there. However, there are tumors in the Bleed. A mathematical process that defines the pathways of alternate universes has gone wrong, changing from meiosis to metastasis. Superhumans, reality's defense force against such an event are helpless to fight it, as they are affected like everything else. Only the Monarchy are in a position to save reality, and God help us if they fail.


 History
They lost everything that ever mattered.

Former StormWatch weatherman Jackson King and his bride Christine Trelane watched as their super-human StormWatch teammates were murdered viciously, and their precious SkyWatch Station was lost. They then spent two demoralizing years biding their time, while living under the watchful eye of their former allies in The Authority. Now, spinning out of events featured in November's THE AUTHORITY #21, the powerful duo returns to the spotlight, heading to the frontlines of the WildStorm Universe with an edgy new purpose and an organization of their own: THE MONARCHY.

Through the course of the series, the team will evolve and change, bringing in various "outsiders" of the WildStorm Universe, including both brand-new characters and established ones that haven't been seen in some time (such as Union and Flint) — many of whom have gone through surprising transformations of their own. In the first issue, the team confronts the Young Authoritarians — a group of youths who are taking the lessons of The Authority to extreme levels by going into poor neighborhoods and killing people they don't like. The Monarchy is determined to stop their pointless violence at any cost.

If The Authority is Earth's moral hammer, then the shadow members of The Monarchy are a scalpel — a cold, bright blade slicing deep into the beating heart of the WildStorm Universe. Beyond the epic widescreen battles and hidden conspiracies there exists an underlying threat to everything — a menace that cannot be hammered back into the shadows. In order to save the world, The Monarchy must break every rule. But how far will they go to restore the balance? Emergency surgery will be required if the Earth is to survive, and THE MONARCHY stands ready to make the first cut.
