Ethan draws his powers from many parallel dimensions through a dimensional nexus in his genetic structure. This would theoretically give him every Gen-Factor power that could possibly exist. Because his raw power could destroy him, Dr. Simon Tsung built a special armor that seals Sigma in an energy-proof cocoon when his power levels go out of control.Bio:Fire From Heaven
Sigma was first introduced during the Fire From Heaven crossover. He is a hero from another dimension that was reborn on Earth in the Wildstorm Universe. Dr. Simon Tsung found Sigma as a baby and adopted him. He named him Ethan McCain. Unfortunately for young Ethan, Dr. Tsung soon found himself working with Miles Craven. Dr. Tsung isolated what he called the Gen-Factor in Ethan's body that gave him unique abilties. After finding a way to use the Gen-Factor, Miles Craven began using it on his own operatives like the soldiers of Team 7. When he realized what Craven was doing, Dr. Tsung fled with Ethan and went into hiding.Years later, the despot known as Damocles came to the Wildstorm Universe from another dimension looking for Sigma. It was during this time that it was revealed to the heroes of the WSU that Ethan was the source of the Gen-Factor powers.
After Damocles was defeated, Ethan tried to live a normal life. The New Dynamix
Sigma was one of the many SPBs held captive for years in one of four cryogenic prisons owned by the criminal matsermind TAO. Just prior to the Armageddon, all of the prisons were located and the prisoners freed. Sigma's current whereabouts and activities are unknown.
Trivia:- Sigma's name is taken from the name of the eighteenth letter of the Greek alphabet. In mathematics it can be used as the summation operator and in science it is usually associated when describing properties that 'bind' together. (Source: Wikipedia: Sigma)
