Science City ZeroFirst Appearance: Planetary #8

History
Science City Zero was run by the Hark Corporation and Randall Dowling of The Four in the 1950s to test the limits of genetic engineering and human biology on political dissidents. Most of the experimental subjects were re-imaginings of American science fiction movies of the 1950s. Warren Ellis, the author of Planetary, connects McCarthyism and anti-communism to the often reckless scientific experimentation on display in 1950s sci-fi, often encouraged by the military-industrial complex, and often displayed flagrantly yet obscurely in popular comics and movies of the time.

Notable occupants of the city include the fathers of John Black and Ambrose Chase, and (possibly) Marilyn Monroe.
