Quiet Men

First Appearance: Grifter vol. 2 #8

History:

The Quiet Men were a group of terrorists who tried to use murder to alter the balance of world power. They were 'crypto-dimensional', meaning they existed in varying numbers of dimensions at any given time. The Quiet Men can shift themselves into 1 or 2 dimensions and remain unseen before striking. Only someone with Coda training is capable of seeing them before they attack and while they are dimensionally shifted. It was this drawback that allowed Zealot (then known as Lucy Blaise) and the man called Soldier, who had limited Coda training, to wipe out many of them about 30 years ago.

The Quiet Men were founded after the Third Crusade when Zealot (calling herself Constance at the time) took in a great warrior named Dakor of Cambria, hoping to train men in the way of the Coda. Dakor was unable to succeed in his training and left in shame. Seeing that he didn't deserve to live, he was about to kill himself before being stopped by Helspont, who told him that the Coda were evil and should be destroyed, along with Zealot. Dakor renamed himself the Sybarite and created the Quiet Men to oppose the Coda.

The title of Sybarite was passed down to his descendants who continued to lead the Quiet Men. The Sybarite was essential to the Quiet Men because he provided them with their powers, acting as a battery and powering his assassins. His role as a power conduit also gave him total control over the Quiet Men. The Quiet Men would only train males, and they killed the female babies born to them not wanting them to grow up to be Coda.

It wasn't until Zealot began training Cole Cash (long before he took the name 'The Grifter') that the Quiet Men at the time thought a female Quiet Man might be a good idea. The niece of the most recent Sybarite was chosen as a good candidate. The girl eventually became the anti-Coda warrior known as Sayonara. The son of the Sybarite murdered by Soldier later carried out a campaign to deal with Zealot once and for all after realizing that her identity was not passed down like the Sybarite's, but that she was actually the same woman all along. The Sybarite hoped to use the secret to Zealot's long life to give himself immortality. Fortunately, he was stopped by Zealot, Soldier, Grifter, and Sayonara. His Quiet Men were wiped out, and the Sybarite was turned over to Stormwatch.
