Prometheus ProgramThis is a featured page

First Appearance: Stormwatch vol. 1 #13

History:
This was an experimental Soviet weapons program in the 1980s created to insure a swift victory in Afganistan and show the world the superiority of the Soviet military. Its intent was to create a perfect melding of man and machine. The prototype was the M.A.D.-1 (Mutually Assured Destruction) which was combined with Epeznatz member Constantin Yevgraf.

After a test run in Kabul in which M.A.D.-1 killed scores of Mujahidin rebels, the official line was that M.A.D.-1 was destroyed and Prometheus was shut down. However, M.A.D.-1 was secretly put into storage at Krasny Medvyed Army Base. Meanwhile Prometheus was continued in a secret facility in the Ural Mountains. Dozens of M.A.D. units were created as a result.

When former members of Stormwatch came after the escaped M.A.D.-1, the leader of the Soviet loyalists sent three M.A.D. units after them. Former Weatherman Henry Bendix was able to use the M.A.D.-1 armor to defeat the other three and use it to infiltrate the Ural Mountains facility. Taking the loyalists by surprise, Cannon, Winter, and Henry Bendix were able to take out their leadership and destroy the facility.
