SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!
Bio:
Jack Rhodes was a soldier recruited in International Operations' covert operations team known as Team 7. Unfortunately, during a mission, he got crippled and was bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Not willing to let go of his edge, he threw himself in the hacking business. Training for days and nights, he eventually became, for some authorities, one of the best hackers in the world. He also left I.O. just after his former teammates got affected by the Gen-Factor, and this may have been the trigger to his departure. Understanding how ruthlessly Craven managed his men, he blamed him for his crippled legs.

One of his first employment, after I.O., was to work as an weapons developer for Gamorra. He took the job in exchange for a suit enabling him walk again. But he left Gamorra before the completion of his last project, perhaps because he became aware of Kaizen's schemes, or because he guessed he would be disposed of afterward. He got back to the US to get revenge on I.O.

Later, in an attempt to get information about Daemonites, Backlash went to Cyberjack. There, Black Razors, who were monitoring Jack's activity and waiting for Slayton, took Cyberjack as an hostage to bring Slayton in custody. They received the order to kill the hacker, but Grifter interfered and saved his life. While this ruined I.O.'s original plan, they thought Slayton, Rhodes and Cash would ultimately lead them to the rest of the ex-Team 7 soldiers.

Returning from Caballito Island, Slayton contacted Jack again for a safehouse. As Backlash was still in his quest to save Diane LaSalle, Cyberjack gave him a hand. They teamed together, Rhodes providing the intelligence data while Slayton went in the field. Among other things, they liberated Taboo from Purgatory Max, the US state prison designed for superhumans, in order to interrogate her about Daemonites on Earth. Some time later, they finally managed to catch S'Ryn's trace and saved LaSalle. All the while, Backlash and Taboo were living in his various safehouses.

Just before the 'Fire From Heaven' episode, Cyberjack just disappeared, leaving Backlash to worry about what had happened. The hacker had been lured back to Gamorra, where Kaizen captured him. He underwent a brainwash and was implanted with a monitoring device and a cortical bomb. He was later used to fight Backlash and his friends when they escaped StormWatch's prison. Backlash couldn't hit his old friend, and was in a rather precarious position. But Jack managed to overcome the brainwash and let the heroes flee. He then turned against the Hunter-Killers that were accompanying him, and Kaizen detonated the bomb, killing him.
