SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
Synopsis:
With the events of Wildstorm Rising behind him, Backlash sets out to rescue Taboo who was captured by The Chasers (Backlash #7). Cyberjack's hacking skills have revealed that she is being held in Stonewall Federal Armory in Quantico, Virginia. It smells like a trap to Backlash, but he attempts the rescue anyway. Inside, he finds that he's not the only infiltrator -- a masked man is also sneaking his way through the facility. Backlash decides to let him be, thinking that it might draw attention away from himself.

The masked man turns out to be Dingo. He's working on bypassing a security door when an alarm sounds and then Taboo bumps into him, apparently making an escape. They escape from some guards but then run smack into Brawl of The Chasers. Brawl's teammates Homicide and Gaze are on the way to assist, but then Gaze detects Backlash's presence and a fight ensues. Meanwhile, Dingo tries fighting Brawl but soon discovers that Brawl is seemingly invulnerable. Brawl's teammate Recoil shows up and they battle.

Gaze uses Slayton's painful memories to cause him physical pain and keep him inactive, but then Gaze comes across some buried memory which hurts him and Backlash both, taking Gaze out of the action. Backlash then deflects a blast from Homicide which blows a hole in the ceiling -- Taboo and Dingo, one level up, use the hole to make their escape from Brawl and Recoil. The three then jump on an underground train and race away from the facility with The Chasers in pursuit. They come to a dead end and crash, but the crash opens a way to the surface where they escape. Taboo runs off, feeling guilty for coming between Backlash and Diane LaSalle. Dingo's reasons for infiltrating Stonewall Federal Armory are never revealed, but apparently he was seeking information.

Back in New York, Backlash and Cyberjack are talking about Taboo when Backlash decides to head to bed. But then a girl walks around the corner and introduces herself as Jodi Morinaka -- Marc's daughter!

Notes:
  • This is the first appearance of Jodi Morinaka.
