SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
Synopsis:S'ryn's is in a secret base hidden beneath the Wildlife Organized Research facility in northern Montana. Two
Daemonite guards discuss an upcoming Cabal war between S'ryn and
Defile. Then they get jumped by
Dane and
Grail of
Wetworks, who have agreed to help Backlash infiltrate the facility and nab S'ryn.
Mother One, also of Wetworks, is coordinating the attack from elsewhere.
Meanwhile,
Cyberjack and
Taboo go to the hospital in Detroit where
Diane LaSalle is still in a coma. They overpower the
StormWatch security and make off with the body, but not before Taboo has a fantasy of ripping Diane to shreds so that she can have Backlash all to herself.
Back at the Daemonite base, Backlash confronts S'ryn and they fight, but Backlash's psi-whip power fades out unexpectedly, allowing him to get blasted. Elsewhere,
Pike and Hestia show up and battle with Dane and Grail, until Grail eventually uses an explosive to end the fight. Backlash ends up overpowering S'ryn despite his power failure, so he slaps some power inhibitors on the Daemonite and everyone flees the base before Grail blows the whole thing sky-high with some planted explosives. Then Dane and Grail head off.
Backlash and S'ryn arrive at the Halo Building in New York City, where they are met by
Emp,
Void, and
Voodoo, of the
Wildcats along with Taboo, Cyberjack, and the comatose Diane LaSalle. Voodoo uses her power to remove Diane's psyche from S'ryn's, but he emerges from the host body and tries to possess Backlash. Backlash turns to his mist form, goes into S'ryn's mouth, and then turns back to human form while inside the Daemonite. S'ryn is killed in a very messy way, but not before he reveals that Backlash is a
Kherubim! He has no idea what that means, but Emp says he and Void have known since they last met. Diane LaSalle awakens from her coma and Emp says there couldn't have been a happier ending.
Epilogue:Fennex, Kamin, and Slider, all animal-man hybrids known as
Kindred, reporting to a shadowy figure whom they call Father. Slider has appropriated a disk from some scientist, which apparently will be used to find others of their kind. Father says that after they find the others, then they will pay a visit to Backlash where Kamin can have all the carnage he desires.
