SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT
Synopsis:It is 1645 in
Japan, where we see a samurai and a ninja in combat. As they fight, the scene switches back and forth from medieval Japan to modern day, where the recently resurrected Backlash is re-enacting his past life as a ninja. He eventually kills the samurai and his current-day guards, then wanders off still believing himself in the past.
Meanwhile,
Lilitu and Zalil are preparing
Taboo for a ritual which will extract Taboo's suit so it can bond with Lilitu. Serge is there, under the mental control of Lilitu. Outside,
Cyberjack and
Crimson are preparing a rescue attempt when they bump into
Mahkinot who is preparing to rescue Serge. They decide to team up to infiltrate Lilitu's base.
Backlash is still wandering around in a daze, but now he thinks he is a medieval European knight. Zalil and Serge attack, and Zalil binds Backlash in his mummy wrappings. But then Backlash nails Serge with his psi-whip which breaks the mental control. Together they fight Zalil and stumble into the room where Lilitu has just summoned forth the spirit of Lord Calobis from Taboo's suit. He tells Lilitu that to free him, she must find a second suit like Taboo's. Then Backlash zaps Calobis with his psi-whip, which has become noticeably more powerful since his resurrection. Calobis takes over Taboo's body for a while and a fight ensues, during which she regains control. Mahkinot, Cyberjack, and Crimson come to the rescue and together everyone escapes from Lilitu.
The group drops Serge and Mahkinot off and then returns to Cyberjack's safehouse. Everyone is uneasy about Backlash's sudden return to the living. Then they notice that the perimeter alarm has gone off. They discover that
Deathblow, Backlash's former teammate from the Team 7 days, is in the kitchen waiting for them. (The issue ends by stating the story will continue in
Deathblow #23).
